How does the Dept of Defense maintain and represent traditional American values?

  1. The Department of Defense is established as the civilian control of the armed forces. The Secretary of Defense is nominated by the President (who is popularly elected by the people) and is approved by a majority of popularly elected US Senators. The values are inherent in the process. It is difficult to understand what you mean by federal legislation that violates individual rights of citizens. You would need to be more specific than referencing something from the holocaust museum. If that is true that there is a law that violates individual rights then you have to go to Court to ask for a ruling that the law violates a specific provision of the constitution.
  2. Well, if we consider "I don't like how you live, so I'm gong to shoot you, because I have the bigger gun" a traditional value, I suppose they do maintain it.
