What are great careers for moms that offer flexible schedules?

I have been a stay home mom for almost 10 yrs now and finally have both kids in school ALL day. I am looking to go back to school for something like a trade or something that requires an associates degree and has flexible schedules.

  1. It's really tough these days. Getting some computer/office skills may be a great way to become more qualified for potential jobs out there. Unfortunately, there are some fields that are so saturated right now due to so many schools offering the programs including the medical assistant, medical billing and/or medical coding field. Whichever course that you decide to take, please forgo those private $$ tech schools and instead opt for the more affordable county vo-tech school or community college (or university). Please steer clear of those online, for-profit schools such as penn foster, US career, strayer, university of phoenix, devry, sanford brown, everest, stratford career, kaplan, capella, walden, ITT tech, ashworth and others as they are merely out to 'make a profit' (and course credits may not transfer): http://www.ripoffreport.com and can type into search. For US colleges: http://www.utexas.edu/world/univ For general career information: http://www.bls.gov/oco and can search 'secretaries and adminstrative assistants', 'bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks' or whatever other career that piques one's interest. Just fyi to please beware of those 'work at home' offers as just about all are scams especially if asking for money upfront or for personal info which may put one at risk for identity theft: http://www.ftc.gov and can click "identity theft" or such.
  2. You may have never considered a career in internet marketing. This type of work is ideally suited for moms who need flexible schedules. It is not the super easy get rich quick kind of work that many scams claim it is, but you can make decent money with it if you apply yourself. If you like to write then I suggest you at least investigate it. If you don't like to write then I suggest you continue to pursue your education and a more traditional job.
