Americans: Do you expect other countries to believe American values?
I really do not agree with many american values. Do you see my point? Do you find that europeans expect you to agree with their values? I am asking because so many americans I've talked to don't like for instance (moderate)socialism Patriotism, unregulated capitalism/liberalism, minimal public service, fanaticism, right wing values, minimum rights for those unable to work, minimun gay rights, fear of socialism, private healthcare etc. In the healthcare deate: Do everyone get access to the best doctors? Or just people who can afford it? Can you as a homeless person, unemployed or mentally ill person have access to "the best doctors"?

- i'm american and don't give a shit what anyone believes. way to generalize all americans
- I'm an american, I love my country. However I think we as a nation overstep our boundaries often. I don't agree with a lot of the stuff that America does, but I will always support the decisions made. Because our people die for those decisions. Half the time our people die fighting for causes that have nothing to do with America!
- What values are you referring to? Do you mean freedom? liberty? Equal rights? The right to vote? You don't agree with these? Oh, I see. How is socialism (moderate or not) working in other countries? Take Canada, for example, health care for all. Where do they come when they have a serious illness. They come to America, where a free market has created an environment where doctors need to strive to be better so they can get the higher paying wages, and more patients. For this reason, they are better are surgery. This is only one example, but socialism does not have a very good history, moderate or not. If America starts heading further in that direction (than we already are) where are people going to turn when their socialist governments let them down. ***You would rather all sub-par doctors just because some people don't have access to the best doctors. Unfortunately not everyone is in an equal status in life, sometimes due to unforeseen or unavoidable situations. I understand that, it is unfortunate and unfair. However, programs like unemployment, medi-care, (in California Medi-cal), non-profit health clinics are there to provide some support. I'm not saying it is perfect, but I don't think there is a perfect system, I'm just saying socialism isn't the solution. I know there are numerous other values you would like to address, but my comment is already too lengthy! And one of the best values we believe in as Americans is the freedom to disagree, and voice those opinions.
- I'm a US citizen living in China and I do not expect, or necessarily even want, the Chinese to accept US values. For example, I don't know why they feel compelled to celebrate Christmas, and I'd much rather experience the Chinese new year festival. When I was in Europe, I don't recall them expecting me to agree with their values, although they were prone to criticizing the foreign policy values of the US government.
- i hope other countries don't believe in our values. the way i see our value system: greed and corruption are "just part of doing business" money makes you the man, no matter how you make the money the busier you are, the more complete your life is and the clincher...lie through you're teeth, it's the easiest way to get what you want. edit: i would love a more socialistic system. sadly, our previous experience during the cold war has brainwashed us into associating socialism with communism, and to believe that both systems are as humanly close as you can get to satan on earth. and with healthcare. we have the right to life. without access to healthcare, a sick person would die. this is a violation of the constitution. and if all the good doctors weren't concentrated in one country, because they know they can make the most money there, other countries would have just as many good doctors.
- Don't have to believe or agree on anything, just respect it. It's a Global thing now and we have to respect each others values. Americans can't be just US stuck in a conner with our own values and the hell with every body else. It's not going to work like that anymore.
- It's just white americans that are like this.
- Americans don't know the first thing about freedom or democracry. Most of your people couldn't be bothered to vote, some crazy institution tells your people who out a couple of candidates they can vote for. The number of homeless and people in dire need of medical attention is a disgrace for a country that brags about its power and institutions. Its country that spouts rhetoric, but is quite capable of carpet bombing innocent people to achieve results. Its a country that talks about democracy but can't help but try and impose its will on sovereign countries. The usa is a cancer on the face of the earth.
