How does the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial reflect american values?

How does the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial reflect american values? I am having trouble with this since the cemetery is located in France and I can only think how it could reflect French values... How does it reflect american values?

  1. To me, the value is seen as the willingness to fight and die so people of another nation could be free again. Of course this was not merely an American ideal, as many nations fought in the war [some since 1939] with the same ideals. I visited it last year, it was a very moving experience. One memory I have is that two sons of a US President are buried there. Theodore Roosevelt's son Theodore Jr [Congressional Medal of Honor winner] died in the Normandy campaign. Next to Teddy jr is his brother Quentin, who died in France in WWI.
