What process does the NFL go through to change team regular season schedules from season to season?

Is it from their record? Winning teams get tougher schedules the following season? Losing teams get easier schedules?

1. well its kinda like that. Of course they still have the 2 divional games. Then they play a new divion within there conference and out of conference each year. And then the 2 other divions within the conference are played based on the previous season's standing. so if a team was in 1st place they have to play the teams who ere in first place last year in those 2 divisions.
