What were the American values during the 1980's? I want to know the American values that were very important during the 1980's. I know that Regan was the president so conservatism must have played an important role on those American values. So what are they?
How could Obama have true American values when he really wasn't raised here, or raised by Americans? All his experiences and influences were foreign from the beginning. Even his grandparents had questionable backgrounds, and Hawaii is hardly the Heartland of the US for old fashioned American values, but that even just means having a grasp of American history and what it means to individuals whose roots stretch back generations and feel it in their bones. It is too hot to express myself clearly but I never understood why most American blacks see him as one of them, he shares no background, culture, genes, heritage, anything like that, with any American blacks whose ancestors were here for hundreds of years.
Americans: Do you expect other countries to believe American values? I really do not agree with many american values. Do you see my point? Do you find that europeans expect you to agree with their values? I am asking because so many americans I've talked to don't like for instance (moderate)socialism Patriotism, unregulated capitalism/liberalism, minimal public service, fanaticism, right wing values, minimum rights for those unable to work, minimun gay rights, fear of socialism, private healthcare etc. In the healthcare deate: Do everyone get access to the best doctors? Or just people who can afford it? Can you as a homeless person, unemployed or mentally ill person have access to "the best doctors"?
How does Superman represent 20th century American values? The students in my sophomore English class at HCHS are researching mythological hero figures in order to deduce cultural values. What happened to American Values and integrity? People used to be proud of America for their Values and Integrity and culture....We Americans have been divided. We are no longer holding on the the values for which we once fought for...Has Greed and lust has consumed us?
American values? Why is it that if you say freddom of speech and free country when some states have banished bibles and praying in schools. and also that if a christian did bring a bible into class or pray that they would get into trouble just because they would want to talk about it. I dont think thats freedom of speech at all or something that a free country would do. I hope that we can all get along and not judge oneanother because of faith and that we can all love each other and represent what christ was about.

Are traditional American Values at odds with modern capitalism? Capitalists espouse the values of hard work and self-determination. True freedom in the form of not owing anyone for anything. However modern capitalist demands for low wages and finite jobs and broad steady profit margins in the name of instant fortunes for the already fortunate are at odds with this. Americans are free to make their own decisions because they owe nothing to anyone, and no one owes them anything either. However when businesses insist that working adults accept $9 an hour instead of $15 and work against them keeping two jobs(assuming they can even find two jobs when they can't find one) how are these working adults supposed to sustain themselves? Are these businesses not dumping self-determination and self-reliance for the American people? Forcing young adults back onto their parents? Forcing people into domestic partnerships? Taking away our individual freedom and liberty by de facto? Thoughts?
I want to know what was American moral values were like long ago? I been hearing that American values were "pure" during the 1950's and back, but I had been reading that those decades were not likeas they were portrayed in the Leave It to Beaver television show . I want to know what does people called American moral values during those periods of time.
How do we regain our true American Values? The Bush administration has trampled the Constitution and abandoned American values and the rule of law -- and so far Congress has failed to act. Our country is at a turning point, and we must take action now to restore the right of habeas corpus, end government-sponsored torture, and uphold the fairness and freedoms that define us as Americans. How do we, as individuals, accomplish this goal?
How does this reflect American Values ? In 1896, the supreme Court ruled that having separate but equal facilities for blacks was constitutional. In 1954, the supreme court ruled that this precedent was unconstitutional. How does this reflect american values ? Appreciat it if anyone can help me to answer this quesiton. thnks again.
Why do so many here speak ill about Southerners as they, as a group, tend to hold traditional American values? I have been to the USA quite often, and while I have not been everywhere (if that is even possible in a land so large), traveling through the American South (especially Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas) I have always felt very welcome and the people have always been very warm. In New York, Boston, and Washington it was not quite as nice and people tend to be far more abrupt. I am planning to immigrate to the USA and settle in the South... I really like Mississippi.
How has American ideals, values, ethos helped shape the immigrant community? i have a paper to write on American Hindus and how the values ethos and American Dream helped shape the hindu community and their cultural and religious traditions . and also how they helped re-form the American identity in the lat 20th and 30th century America. i would greatly appreciate ideas, i have some but not enough.
Could someone explain some stuff based on Traditional American values? Does "under God" specifically refer to Christianity, or any form of religion or spirituality? Is it really the governments job to force people to live by certain values? How is it that America is based on Bible standards? Is it really giving us freedom? Is being spiritual exceptable? Instead of joining organized religion? What about the government getting involved with our sexual life? Yes or no?
What exactly are traditional American values? Okay, so if "respect for the individual" is one of them, can I ask how it is in support of American values to ban gay marriage? You know, the things that we Socialists are apparently so keen to steal from the USA.
Do Liberal Democrats dislike American values because we don't follow other countries ideas ? Do we hate Walmart and General motors because they stand for America ? Do we avoid the stock market , because it is made of American corporations ? Yes, its obvious that liberals have little common sense, but do they grow out of it when they get older ? Yes, its obvious that Democrats ran out of ideas during the depression, but aren't most younger Democrats ignorant to this ?
How representative of American values is a president whose views change based on opinion polls? Why does it appear that Americans voted based on emotion and not fact? I would rather support a president who had great conviction and a strong moral compuncture as evidenced by his VOTING record. NOT by public opinion... I don't want a sales pitch from some oily salesman selling snake oil. Nor do I want bumper sticker slogans without substance constantly regurgitated over and over again. Repeating "CHANGE" over and over again will not solidify it as truth. I know a lot of people that voted for Obama because he "sounded good", or because he was "for change"...or they thought he could do a good job, but when I asked them what their opinion was based on - the silence was deafening...I can't trust a president whose opinions on issues changes based on poll results or approval ratings.
Why does Obama appear to hate Traditional American Values such as privacy so much? I mean does he and all of his followers really want the government involved in every aspect of a person's business, public and private life. Sure seems that way. I thought most people would cherish their privacy, but I guess when they have spent their lives filling out government assistance forms with all their pertinent private info on it, it really just becomes second nature to not give a sh!t.
What are some Native American values? I'm doing a book review on 'The True Story of Pocahontas' and my teacher wants us to do an additional research part on a topic relevant to the book, so I'm doing the values of Native Americans. Research isn't getting me very far, so I'm looking for all the input I can get. I just need some basic traditional values from history, and some that are still relevant for Native Americans today. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

What are the perceived American Family Values? As stated by White America Reborn earlier today, he mentioned American Family Values. He then went on to insult homosexuals, so his question was not worth my time. What I would like to know, if anyone knows, or if he's still on here. What are these perceived "American Family Values" that he spoke of? Is it to hate those who are different than yourself, as he so eloquently puts it in his questions?
Can either party rightfully claim to be the party of American values? The list of criminals and deviant behavior is lengthy on both sides of the aisle. What do you think when a candidate runs on a platform of "moral values," or a similar concept? What do you think later when the skeletons in their closet are exposed? Everyone is human, I understand . . .
What custom, habit, event, etc. solidifies your conviction that American values are on the decline? And for your example only, why do you believe that is so? An example: The incessant coverage of Britney Spears. Some have decided to use the failure of others to measure success rather than measuring success against a positive. It's easier. It's flawed, but easier. Britney is still more famous, richer than most. Even in her downward spiral, she has demonstrated some ability (guest appearance on a sitcom). What's your example?
